25 Years of Martian Games

> Updated — October 9, 2026: Expanded with the dated milestones and surviving public references collected in the Martian Games timeline.

Martian Games did not begin with a storefront or a giant launch. The documented story starts with four years of experimentation from 2000 through 2004, learning game development and shaping a studio around multiplayer play, visual art, music, and digital media.

Sled Bash and the beginning

In December 2004, that work became Sled Bash, a snowball-fighting and racing game. The studio timeline records it as Shade's first 3D game and the founding milestone for Martian Games. Its mix of racing, combat, and shared play points directly toward the games that followed.

Vehicle combat becomes a through-line

Motor Wars arrived on October 1, 2012, combining armed vehicles, racing, and multiplayer combat. Motor Wars 2 followed on August 13, 2013. The same design thread later ran through Martian Wars, Tank Off, Kart Wars, Soccar, and Water Wars: vehicles are not just transportation here; they are the center of the match.

Browser multiplayer expands

The catalog moved across settings and genres without leaving fast multiplayer behind:

  • Air Wars established the aerial-combat series in December 2016.
  • Purgatory Fell became the studio's first VR title on Steam on March 30, 2018.
  • Kart Wars, Sol Wars, and Soccar expanded the 2018 browser catalog into kart combat, space dogfights, and timed car soccer.
  • Met Rage brought multiplayer FPS combat underground in 2019.
  • Air Toons, Blit Siege, and the third Air Wars release carried the browser catalog into 2020.
  • VeloRaptia entered alpha on Spatial.io in 2024.

The archive is still playable, readable, and accountable

Some titles have live browser or store releases. Others survive as editorial pages with verified media, platform links, and status notes. The site labels that difference deliberately: a historical page is not presented as a new build, and a planned relaunch is not presented as released.

Today the same catalog connects through the games directory, game wiki, news archive, videos, leaderboards, and the full development timeline. That timeline is the evidence trail for the dates above and the best place to explore every era.
