Privacy Policy
Who We Are
Martian Games is an indie game studio operating martiangames.com. We make free browser-based multiplayer games and companion apps. We do not sell products or process payments on this site. Some games offer optional in-game handles (see Leaderboard scores below); we do not require a Martian Games account to browse the site or play most titles as a guest.
Our Apps (Martian Copilot & Martian Games)
In addition to this website, Martian Games publishes:
- Martian Copilot — a companion PWA at copilot.martiangames.com, also listed on the Microsoft Store (Store ID
9PN7W26D3JQ3). It shows news, game wiki, videos, community board, and links. It does not currently ship Google Analytics or AdSense inside the app. - Martian Games (desktop Library / launcher) — an Electron app that opens our self-hosted games in a desktop window. Direct-download installers and a future Microsoft Store listing (Store ID
9P9VQ5VMWV07, Games category) use this same privacy policy URL. The desktop app loads game embeds and public feed APIs from martiangames.com; it does not add a separate analytics SDK today.
Both apps may call the same public feed endpoints this site already exposes (news, polls, leaderboard, wiki, socials). They store ordinary browser/local preferences on your device (e.g. layout, vote-session markers). Optional account linking (email / Discord) is planned later — when that ships, this section will be updated before those features go live, and Partner Center will keep pointing at this page.
What We Collect
We collect the minimum necessary to operate the site, our apps, and understand how they are used.
Analytics (anonymous)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) via Google Tag Manager to collect anonymous usage data: pages visited, session duration, device type, and general geographic region (country/city level). No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.
We also track specific interaction events — clicks on game launch buttons, social icon clicks, and scroll depth — to understand how visitors engage with the site. No personal data is attached to these events.
Leaderboard scores
If you submit a score to the Tank Off leaderboard, we store the name or tag you enter along with your score. We do not require an account. Do not enter your real name if you prefer to remain anonymous.
Newsletter signup (optional)
If you choose to subscribe to game updates, we collect your email address and the game interests you select. This information is stored in Google Sheets and used only to send occasional Martian Games news. We do not share it with third parties. You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing support@martiangames.com with the subject "Unsubscribe".
X (Twitter) integration
Martian Games uses an X developer application only to manage content from our own @MartianGames account and, when enabled, announce our public X posts in the Martian Games Discord server. Visitors are not asked to sign in with X, and this integration does not request access to visitors' X accounts, private messages, contacts, likes, follows, or other private activity.
The integration may receive our public X account identifier and public post information such as a post ID, text, URL, and timestamp. We use that information only to identify a new Martian Games post, prevent duplicate announcements, and publish a link or excerpt in our public Discord #tweets channel. Locally, we retain only the most recent processed post ID and an update timestamp; Discord may retain the resulting announcement according to its own policies and our server moderation practices.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on some pages. Google AdSense uses cookies to personalise ads based on your visits to this and other websites.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings or aboutads.info. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them non-personalised.
Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. We participate in Google's consent management framework for EEA, UK, and Swiss visitors.
Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and browser storage for:
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to distinguish sessions and track site usage anonymously.
- Tag management — Google Tag Manager loads and manages analytics scripts.
- Advertising — Google AdSense sets cookies to serve and measure ads. See the Advertising section above.
- Community voting — a session cookie remembers whether you have voted in a community poll to prevent duplicate votes.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Google Analytics can be opted out via the GA opt-out browser add-on.
For full details on what cookies are set, see our Cookie Policy.
Third-Party Services
The site embeds content from the following third parties, which may set their own cookies:
- Google AdSense — advertising on select game pages
- YouTube — video embeds on game pages
- CrazyGames — some games are also playable on CrazyGames.com
- Steam — Steam widget embeds on select pages
- Google Tag Manager / GA4 — analytics (described above)
- X (formerly Twitter) — supplies public content from our own @MartianGames account for optional studio-post announcements
- Discord — receives those public X post links/excerpts in the Martian Games community server
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services.
Data Retention
GA4 analytics data is retained for 14 months (Google's default). Newsletter email addresses are held until you unsubscribe. Leaderboard scores are stored indefinitely as part of the public game record. The X integration's local duplicate-prevention state contains only the latest processed Martian Games post ID and update time; public Discord announcements remain until removed through ordinary server moderation.
Children's Privacy
Martian Games is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through this site, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you (leaderboard entries or newsletter subscription) by contacting us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information (as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA) for cross-context behavioral advertising, and to know, delete, or correct personal information we hold about you.
Martian Games does not sell personal information for money. Our use of Google AdSense and Google Analytics may constitute "sharing" personal information under the CCPA/CPRA's broad definition, because these services use cookies for interest-based advertising and analytics.
To opt out:
- Use our cookie banner's Reject Non-Essential option, which disables advertising and analytics cookies for your visit.
- Enable the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal — we automatically detect and honor it as an opt-out request without requiring any further action from you.
- Contact us at support@martiangames.com with the subject "CCPA Opt-Out" or "CCPA Data Request".
We will not discriminate against you (e.g. by denying access to games or features) for exercising any CCPA/CPRA right.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The "Last updated" date below reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
